| 1913 | Ruth (Hair) Durst My grandmother graduated in 1913 and died at age 93 in Sebastopol. She was honored at the 1983 graduation for being the oldest graduate still living. My grandfather, David Durst was a teacher and principal at Analy during the early 20's. They met when my grandmother was a senior and he was a teacher. She went on to Berkley, became a teacher, they were married in 1916 on her parent's apple ranch on Gravenstien Highway. Submitted by Sue (Garrison) Klinker Granddaughter Amelia Hillard Amelia Louella Hillard was born in Eau Claire, Pennsylvania on September 17, 1894 and came to Sebastopol in 1906 with her parents. After graduating from Spring Hill Grammar School in 1909, she attended Analy against her father's wishes. Her father believed that women were meant to be housewives and did not need an education. Consequently, Amelia stayed with a family in Sebastopol while she attended Analy. It has been told that she was responsible for naming the Analy Yearbook the "Azalea" because she loved the azaleas that grew near her parent’s home on Spring Hill. Amelia graduated from Analy in 1913, which I understand was the first class that had four full years at Analy. She then attended Sweets Business School in Santa Rosa and subsequently worked as a secretary at the Saint Francis Hotel in San Francisco. She married Charles Washington Kidwell on May 5, 1921 and they had three children. Shortly after Charlie's death in 1937, Amelia became the City Clerk in Sebastopol. In 1955, she opened a dress shop in the old train depot. Amelia died in an automobile accident on September 4, 1957. |
