| 1936 | Walter Fellers Walter Edwin Fellers was born in Sebastopol on January 14, 1918. He graduated from Analy in 1936. He then attended Santa Rosa Junior College and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from College of Pacific in 1940. In 1942, he graduated from California Institute of Technology (Cal-Tech) Pasadena, with a Masters degree in Aeronautical Engineering. On December 26, 1943, Walt and Ruth Leone Christian were married. They had two sons. Walt worked for North American Aviation Corporation in Inglewood for eleven years where he was involved in the aerodynamic design of the P-51, P-82, FJ-1, F-86, and F-100 fighter planes and the B-45 and AJ-1 bombers. In 1954, he went to work for Northrop Aviation Corporation. Walt was Chief Aerodynamics Engineer for the N-156, which evolved into the F-5 NATO fighter, and later the T-38, the Air Force's supersonic trainer. Walt was project engineer for the Northrop YF-17, P-530, and A-9A aircraft. In 1981, Walt was named Vice President and Chief Designer for Northrop Aviation. He retired in June 1987 and died in Los Angeles on April 13, 1988 from cancer. |
